The Fellowship of the Ring (2001):

The first film introduces the world of Middle-earth, where a powerful ring created by the dark lord Sauron has been found by a hobbit named Frodo Baggins. The Return of the King (2003):

The final film depicts the climactic battle for Middle-earth. Frodo and Sam reach Mount Doom while the forces of Sauron gather for a final assault. The remaining members of the fellowship, along with the people of Gondor and Rohan, join forces to fight against Sauron's army.
